Against the Law to Plant your Garden????

I don't know much about politics. I try my best to listen, but often find my blood boiling when I do. But this just went over the edge for me. I just can't believe that ANYONE would vote in favor of this ----- telling me that I can no longer plant a tomato plant in a pot on my 5 acres of land! I feel like all my rights are being taken away from me one by one. Please read this, check it out, and make your voice heard . . . somewhere!

Here is the full text version of the bill. You may have to copy the link and paste it:

Pay special attention to

* Section 3 which is the definitions portion of the bill-read in it’s entirety.
* section 103, 206 and 207- read in its entirety.

What it Does:

* Legally binds state agriculture departments to enforce federal guidelines effectively taking away the states power to do anything other than being food police for the federal government.
* Effectively criminalizes organic farming, but doesn’t actually use the word 'organic.'
* Affects anyone growing food, even if they are not selling it but consuming it.
* Affects anyone producing meat of any kind including wild game.
* Legislation is so broad based that every aspect of growing or producing food can be made illegal. There are no specifics, which is bizarre considering how long the legislation is.
* Section 103 is almost entirely about the administrative aspect of the legislation. It will allow the appointing of officials from the factory farming corporations and lobbyists and classify them as experts and allow them to determine and interpret the legislation. Who do you think they are going to side with?
* Section 206 defines what will be considered a 'food production facility' and what will be enforced upon all food production facilities. The wording is so broad based that a backyard gardener could be fined and more.
* Section 207 requires that the state’s Agriculture department act as the food police and enforce the federal requirements. This takes away the states power and is in violation of the 10th amendment.

when I first heard about this..my response was much like yours, Cora...but after looking into it a bit, I don't think it will effect the small grower but it sure will hurt farmers markets and small farms.....it's disgusting how much the government is trying to micromanage us....that's the trouble with big government, the larger it gets, the fewer freedoms we have....

well it looks like I will be spending a lot of time in hiding, or in jail because NO ONE will take that that priviledge away from me!

oh, I wanted to ask, have you joined the 9/12 project?...if not, I'd be happy to send you an invitation....we have over 350,000 members already in less than 3 weeks...we have to get Washingtons attention....and together we will have a strong voice..also go to any tea parties in your area....they usually are on the 15th of the month.

Cora, I know it sounds strange but I smiled when I read through your post. It makes sense to me. The Bible says that in the last days people will be kept from buying and selling food (unless they have the mark of the Beast-- see Revelation 13:17).

All of the crazy legislation is laying the foundation for "government" to regulate who buys and sells.

I am excited by that fact we could be seeing our Jesus very soon!

Things are getting nutty down here...

Well,, the whole world has gone nuts! I will grow my squash and my tomatoes and enjoy the heck out of them....... Our little farmers with road side stands will be so effected and such a shame..... I guess the government is going to feed us and dress us and tuck us in at night.... ! YEAH right!

Hey Cora,
WHAT????!!! NUHUH....
NOWAY....
I gotta go check that out!?

Cor...I am laughing...when I told you about this, I was not sure you believed me! I will affect every backyard grower...it will also affect anyone with "farm animals", i.e., chickens, goats, sheep, cows, etc....even if you are raising them for your own food. Big government does not want us to be able to survive....they need us to depend totally on the government, hence the government run health care, licensing our gardens and our chickens, etc., etc......slowly, we will see our freedoms slip away, with gun control, the fairness doctrine, and yes, even our gardens!

Cora: This definately is frustrating and all an ongoing part of all that our country is coming to. As soon as folks take God out, the rest will come crumbling down...

But!!! I must say that I am 100% with your friend Lainie!!!

Many of my friends were having a similar discussion concerning Life issues on facebook, and all I could think of was that the Lord was seperating the wheat from the weeds.

We do need to be active and not just let injustices happen, but I rejoice in the thought that the Lord is coming, and I cannot wait!!!

I am feeling like a stranger in my own land lately, and for me, it only confirms that I am on the right track.

"Ceasar" can have his taxes. But the rest is for the Lord!!!

Thanks for posting this info here. I had not heard it before. I guess I, too, will be a criminal 'cause there ain't no way I'm gonna stop growing my cherry tomatoes!!! :)

Hugs... *Linda*

Cora,

This really angers me! I'm actually fed up with how many things are being pushed through in which the government will control us. I don't understand why more people aren't seeing it, or if they are, not standing up. I commend you and thank you for bringing this to our attention. I didn't know about this one. I went to our state Capitol a couple of weeks ago to stand up against a bill that involved control over educating our children too! We've got to stand up. I loved Juri's comment....I second her comment and Amen to it! :) Oh my goodness, can you tell this really gets my dander up? This government really wants to weaken the American people and make us dependent upon the government. That is SCARY!

I have been praying, praying, praying. We live on 100 acres and we grow food not only for ourselves but with the intentions to SHARE it with others (by giving it away). We also have plans for a small market, so this would hit us hard.

When I first heard about this, I read it to my young sons and they said, "Mom, what has happened to our country?" I wish I knew what to tell them. First, it was lead in clothing and now this. It's so sad.

I just stopped in to check on you. It seems like you are doing well. I've been on a blogging break, but have wondered how you've been. :-)

Hi Cora,
Thanks for your visit to my blog today and for the compliment on my little bottle! I really liked making it and it was very easy too!

It's crazy the way the governement is creeping more and more into our lives ~ but it's definitely no surprising given what the Bible tells us. I guess we just need to stay informed and keep on praying!

I've read about you before in visit's to Lea's blog and I have been praying for you. I wanted to tell you that I think your hair looks great!

Well once again, thanks for the visit ~ I'm off to decide where to plant my tomatos!! : )

All I feel when I read this is sadness. All too quickly I feel our country changing into an entirely different place than the one I was born into. Our private rights as citizens are being slowly eroded and it just breaks my heart and scares me for the children who will inherit our land.

Lord come quickly.

Hope you are doing well with your continued treatment. I think of you so very often.

Hugs, Lea

I'm with you Cora! The liberal political agenda makes me crazy. I can only read it in small doses. It simply is 'not' right. Total dependence on government I think is the aim. I'm proudly sporting my 'www.teapartyday.com' bumper stickers. Actually, I am not a fan of bumper stickers, so I scotch tape them to my rear window. After events, I remove them.

Yeah, I have to agree, but you are all getting the wrong idea. This isn't the doing of the government, it's the doing of big business. Factory farm owners don't like the idea of people growing their own food because they want to suck our wallets dry. Same as every other big business/corporation. We do need the government to regulate things and keep shit in check (remember the housing crisis? Yeah, bush was the one who deregulated wall street), we just have to make sure that it is on the side of the citizenry and NOT the fat cats throwing money on the campaign trail.
